Tools for Dyslexia
Phonics vs Phonological awareness vs Phonemic Awareness

This publication has been provided by the Georgia Department of Education. Here is a quote from the FORWARD written by Georgia School Superintendent, Dr. Richard Woods.
" This Handbook describes what dyslexia is and what it looks and sounds like when a child is experiencing difficulties in learning to read. It addresses how to screen for dyslexia and how to systematically improve reading skills instruction, while ensuring each and every child has access to individualized supports if the system is not meeting their needs. Quite simply, dyslexia is a learning difference. Children with dyslexia have difficulty learning to read, write, or spell in spite of having normal or above-average intelligence. According to Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide, researchers and authors of the book The Dyslexic Advantage, people with dyslexia often show special talents in areas of art, music, and sports. They typically have difficulty learning to read, write, and spell through traditional teaching methods. What works best is a multi-sensory approach which incorporates touch, hearing, vision, and movement. With appropriate instruction, people with dyslexia can learn to read, write, spell, and excel in school.
The Georgia Promise Scholarship is a program that provides funds for parents to use toward tutoring and/or private school tuition if they decide to take their child out of public school. In order to qualify, the child must live in the attendance zone for an eligible school. Click the links below for more information.
